August 2010, At mid-August Weevil, Shuckworm, Nut Scab season is upon us. They will be active till mid-September. See material provided by NCPGA for guidance

August 2010, Begin to pay attention to orchard floor management. Application of Roundup and a pre-emergence control will take care of things till harvest.

August 2010, Trees up to three years of age need supplemental watering during log hot spells. Three gallons weekly will be sufficient when no rainfall as occurred. Don’t over water.

August 2010, Mid-August young pecans are sizing and vulnerable to nut scab until fully sized, usually by late August. Orbit, Enable, Stratego are effective.

August 2010, Fertilization of young trees should have stopped in July. Late season growth is highly subject to freeze damage.

August 2010, We at Lake View Nursery are taking orders now for pecan and fruit trees for 2011 planting. All trees are grown at Lake View and well adapted to local conditions.

June 2010, Plan to participate in NCPGA Annual Workshop on Saturday February 19, 2011 at the Cooperative Extension Center in Kinston, NC.
